program description |
Freeride Regional - 1-Day is designed for strong skiers who wish to focus on all mountain skiing and refining skills in the terrain park. Athletes may be interested in trying a competition or two. Training will be conducted in and outside of the terrain park, however, our program focuses more on big mountain/freeride skiing than terrain park skiing. Coaches will focus on proper technique and consistency when executing maneuvers in the air, in and out of the terrain park. Additionally, coaches will focus on good decision making, positive self talk, work ethic, perseverance, task oriented skills, teamwork and sportsmanship. They will encourage the use of imagery and visualization. Though there is some use of the terrain park, our program focuses more toward athletes looking to progress their all mountain/freeride skiing.
Ages: 10+
Skill Development Focus: Emphasis will be on responsible and realistic decision making in big mountain scenarios and technical tricks. Focus on technique and proper movement patterns. Ability to execute a carved turn and exploring inverted trampoline skills. Fundamental inverted jumps may be introduced with focus on form and consistency.
Skill Requirements: Athletes should be comfortable in terrain parks, and all mountain skiing.
Competition: Introduction to competitions at Grand Targhee or Wednesday Night Lights at Snow King
Schedule/Sessions: Saturdays or Sundays 8:30am-3pm for 16 weeks December 3, 2022 – March 19, 2023.
Program Fees:
GTSSF Team Meeting: November 12, 2022, 9-11am, mandatory, location TBD
HOLIDAY SCHEDULE: GTSSF will not be hosting programs on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day or New Year's Day so our coaches and families can enjoy that time with their family and friends. We do intend to provide make-up days for all participants for those three days based on coaches' and athletes' schedules. Nothing has been finalized at this time, but some options may include:
Academy Program: This program offers the potential for mid-week training days for athletes who can coordinate their school schedules to get out of school early. For freeride, this would mean an additional fee of $450 for each additional mid-week training day an athlete signs up for through the entire season i.e. all Tuesdays = $450 for the season.
At registration, you will need to register for each day separately. For example, if you want to register for Tuesdays and Thursdays, you will need to first register for Tuesdays and then go back in and add a Thursday registration.
You may choose up to 2 additional days of in-week training. Once commitments have been made, coaching staff will make final decisions on which days coaching will be provided. If coaching will not be offered on any days you selected, you will be able to switch to a day coaching is provided or you will receive a full refund for that amount.
Schedules will be decided by coaches. Extended days will be offered Mondays and Wednesdays depending on registrations from 1pm-4pm, additional days may be added based on interest.
Preseason Training: Attendance at 1 trampoline camp recommended
Complementary Programs: As a freeride athlete, your schedule would allow you to register for these other GTSSF programs:
Ski Passes: Pass prices are not included in program fees. Grand Targhee season passes must be purchased directly through Grand Targhee Resort.
Transportation: Not included on weekends. GTSSF vans will be available for the 2022-23 season. Shuttles will be coordinated by coaches, office staff, and parents based on where athletes attend school and the needs of other teams. Transportation is never 100% guaranteed.
