Alpine Development

program Description

Register
The Alpine Development program is designed to build confidence on skis and refine skiing fundamentals of early ski skills children bring to the program. Often this is an athlete’s first experience with a coach and on a team. Most of the time will be spent exploring all runs on the mountain through play and exploration. Coaches will stress having fun while building teamwork, learning mountain safety, and enjoying time outside. Guided free skiing and drills are an integral part of the Alpine Development program. Children will be encouraged to lead a balanced lifestyle with healthy habits that promote success in sport and life. Positive parental support is essential. Athletes are arranged in groups based on skill, speed, and social needs.

Ages*: 7 (birth year 2015)-10
  • *Any children under the age of 7 may register and go through a skills assessment the first week to determine if the program will be a good fit. Skills assessment criteria below. If child is not yet ready for programs, families can leave any payments on their account to be used at a future date or receive a full refund.
  • *Any children who participated in programs last year under the age of 7 may register and participate without doing the skills assessment.

Skill Development Focus: Emphasis on play, fun, varied terrain, and refining ski fundamentals. The three main components will be balance, rotary and edging.

Skill Requirements: Participants must be able to put on their own ski equipment; load, put down the bar, and ride the lift; and ski on Shoshone and Dream Catcher, at a minimum.

Races: Not required. Athletes are welcome and encouraged to race in Club Series races.  More information here.

Schedule/Sessions: Saturdays and/or Sundays for 8 or 16 weeks from 8:45a.m to 12:30p.m.  Sessions will always begin by meeting at the base of the Shoshone lift unless otherwise specified by your coach.

HOLIDAY SCHEDULE: TVSEF will not be hosting programs on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day or New Year's Day so our coaches and families can enjoy that time with their family and friends.  We do intend to provide make-up days for all participants for those three days based on coaches' and athletes' schedules.  Nothing has been finalized at this time, but some options may include:
  • In-week make-ups over Christmas break
  • Athletes may join another session day (2nd session or Saturday), as space is available
