PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Comp Cross Country Ski Team is designed for athletes who want to refine their skills, improve their aerobic ability and compete. Training is more structured and include aerobic, anaerobic and strength training. Cross training opportunities are presented that include balance, coordination, endurance and speed activities. Athletes will learn to use both low-intensity aerobic training, high-intensity aerobic training and anaerobic training to improve race fitness.
Ages: 14-19 years (9th – 12th grade).
Skill Development Focus: Good body position, balance and weight shift. Ability to maintain appropriate balance and stance while skiing in all terrain and under a variety of conditions. Understands concept of changing tempo to suit conditions and terrain. Discusses race strategy and pacing with a coach.
Skill Requirements: Basic cross country ski fundamentals.
Competition: Encouraged to race in at least two Junior National Qualifiers (JNQ), local events and inter-club comps and as many races as desired in January and February.

GTSSF Team Meeting: November 12, 2022, 9-11am, mandatory, location TBD
Academy Program*: This program offers the potential for extended training days for athletes who can coordinate their school schedules to get out of school early. For cross country, this would mean an additional fee of $165 for each additional extended training day an athlete signs up for the entire season i.e. all Tuesdays = $165 for the season.
At registration, you will need to register for each day separately. For example, if you want to register for Tuesdays and Thursdays, you will need to first register for Tuesdays and then go back in and add a Thursday registration.
Schedules will be decided by coaches. Extended days are being offered Wednesdays and Fridays from 2pm-5pm.
Ski Passes: A TVTAP Nordic Pass is required. Grand Targhee Nordic pass encouraged.
Transportation: GTSSF vans will be available for the 2022-23 season. Shuttles will be coordinated by coaches, office staff, and parents based on where athletes attend school and the needs of other teams. Transportation is never 100% guaranteed.

License: None required though USSA license suggested.
Race Travel Expenses: Not included in program fees. See Parent Handbook for more information on competition fees.
Work Deposit and Family Participation: $150 - One deposit required per family. Positive parental support is essential. Families are encouraged to get involved with club activities and volunteer for team races, trainings and events. Deposit is credited at end of year if volunteer hours are fulfilled.

- Dryland Training - 8-week preseason dryland training included in program fee. Includes 2 days of strength training and 2 days of roller skiing each week, September 19-November 18, 2022
- On-Snow Training - Mondays through Fridays, 3:30-5:00pm with weekend activity encouraged for 16 weeks starting November 28, 2022 – March 17, 2023.

- Skis: Uses classic and skate skis. Fit is essential and should be selected to fit skiers’ weight and height. Skis are properly waxed and maintained at all times by the athlete. Athlete carries appropriate supplies for training.
- Boots: Classic and skate
- Poles: should be using poles specifically for classic and skate.
- Ancillary equipment: hill bounding poles, appropriate footwear and clothing for all activities. Athlete has a backpack for extra clothing, water bottle, water bottle carrier, waxing equipment, etc.
