PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Cross Country Ski Development Team athletes should have at least one year of cross country skiing experience and ski 2-6 days a week or as much as is enjoyable. Emphasis is on outdoor recreation and an introduction to competition. Coaches will provide opportunities for skiers to experience different types of terrain and snow conditions. Focus is on suppleness and technique and an introduction to stamina and strength. Skiers will be able to demonstrate basic athletic stance on skis, balance on one ski while skiing gradual downhills and understand the difference between running, classic skiing and skating. Can herringbone and snowplow. Goal is to develop skiing skills to maximize individual athletic potential. Introduction of Skate and Classic technique and basic training and conditioning.
Ages: 7 – 10 years (2nd – 5th grade)
Skill Development Focus: Emphasis will be on good body position, balance and weight shift through play. Maintain appropriate balance and stance while skiing in all terrain and under a variety of conditions. Focus on team work and fair play.
Skill Requirements: Basic cross country ski fundamentals
Competition: Introduction to competition. Alta Vista and Spud Chase highly recommended. Encouraged to race in local events, inter-club competitions or other races that may lead to state, divisional or Jr. National Qualifier (JNQ) races. Age appropriate distances.
Schedule/Sessions: Tuesdays and Thursdays for 13 weeks, December 8, 2020 – March 4, 2020 at Alta Track, 4-5 pm.
*If groomed track is not available on Dec 10th due to snow conditions, practices will be once a week and varied until groomed track/on snow activities are available.
Program Fees: $315
Ski Passes: $25 TVTAP Nordic Membership is required.
Transportation: Not provided for 2020-21 season.

Work Deposit and Family Participation: Positive parental support is essential. Families are encouraged to get involved with club activities including volunteering at least once a month in training.

- Skis: uses waxable skis that are to be properly waxed by the athlete, parent or club leader for every day of skiing. Boots: allow for natural ankle movement
- Poles: one pair of poles for all techniques* TVSEF has a wide range of boots, skis and poles to fit most elementary athletes for a nominal rental fee.

- TVSEF will offer full refunds up until November 1st for any family who is no longer comfortable with their child participating.
- TVSEF will offer partial refunds to any family who is no longer comfortable with their child participating at any point in time. TVSEF will retain 30% of the participant’s program fee for administrative fees plus an additional prorated fee for the period the athlete participated in the program. If the athlete participated in 70% of the program, no refunds will be given.
- TVSEF will offer partial refunds should programming be cut short as a result of COVID-19. TVSEF will retain 30% of program fees for administrative fees plus an additional prorated fee for the period the program was able to continue.
