freeride national

Program Description

Register
The Freeride National program is designed for advanced freeride skiers who wish to focus on success in competitions. This program includes 2 in-week training days, 1 preseason trampoline camp, and an 8-week preseason dryland training program.  GTSSF competition fees for 3 regional IFSA competitions and 3 national IFSA competitions are built into the program fee. If the actual competition fees for these 6 events go over the estimated cost, that additional amount will be billed separately at the end of the season.  Participation in additional competitions will be invoiced separately in addition to this program fee. Training will focus on more individualized coaching geared toward success in competition.  Greater emphasis will be placed on the use of imagery, visualization, and whole athlete development. In addition, athletes are welcome to attend any weekend sessions without an additional fee with the approval of the head coach.

Ages: 14+ or with head coach's approval

Skill Development Focus: Emphasis will be on the 5 judging criteria for IFSA competitions with focus on technique, proper movement patterns, and consistency. Continued focus will be on responsible and realistic decision making in big mountain scenarios and technical tricks.
  1. Line Choice: Each competitor chooses his/her line or route down the course. High scores are given for choosing difficult routes. Difficulty is determined by steepness, exposure, air, snow and course conditions.
  2. Control: Competitors must remain in control at all times. Any loss of control will result in a lower score. Skillful recoveries will reduce penalties.
  3. Fluidity: Constant direction towards a goal. This includes continuity, pace, and smooth transitions between sections of the course. Falling or stopping can have a negative impact in this category
  4. Technique: Competitors are judged on style and turn quality relating to big mountain freeriding.
  5. Style & Energy: This encompasses the pace, energy and creativity with which a competitor attacks or descends his/her chosen line or route. Style focuses on freestyle execution of maneuvers.

Skill Requirements: Athletes should be comfortable skiing drops, experimenting with grabs and/or spins, and have an eye toward competitive success.

Competition: Fees for 3 regional and 3 national IFSA competitions are included in the program fee.  It would be expected that athletes would attend 6 comps.

Schedule/Sessions:
  • Dryland Training - 2 days a week strength training, specific dates TBD. September 19-November 18.
  • Trampoline Camp - 5 weeks of trampoline training, specific dates TBD. Additional trampoline camps may be added on separately.
