Snowboard Comp 2 day

program Description

Register
Emphasis will be on fundamentals such as exploration, all-mountain riding, etiquette and sportsmanship. Coaches will provide an all mountain experience including hike-to areas and terrain park. The goal is for athletes to gain experience and build confidence in a fun, motivating environment that incorporates play, fun, basic agility, balance, coordination and development of endurance.. At least 90% of the time will be spent freeriding. Dryland gymnastic training is recommended.

Ages: 11-18 (10 with coaches permission)

Skill Development Focus: Riding all terrain and exploring the mountain. Through effective stance and efficient movements, riders will learn to control their board and perform a variety of fundamental tasks such as riding in control, turning from toe to head, simple switch riding, basic carve turn, basic Ollie, ability to ride flat base for short periods of time, riding easier moguls or tree turns and powder turns. In freestyle terrain, riders will become comfortable grabbing over small jumps and exploring rotations both front and backside as well as simple rail features.

Skill Requirements: Athletes should have 4-7 years of riding experience.

Competition: FUN local competitions recommended.

Schedule/Sessions:
  • Dryland Training - 1 session of trampoline camp included preseason, dates TBD. Additional trampoline camps may be added on separately.
  • On-snow Training - Saturdays and Sundays, 9am-3pm, December 3, 2022 – March 19, 2023

Program Fees:
  • July - $1,410
  • Aug. 1 - Sept. 15 - $1,475
  • Sept. 16 - Nov. 1 - $1,550

GTSSF Team Meeting: November 12, 2022, 9-11am, mandatory, location TBD

HOLIDAY SCHEDULE: GTSSF will not be hosting programs on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day or New Year's Day so our coaches and families can enjoy that time with their family and friends.  We do intend to provide make-up days for all participants for those three days based on coaches' and athletes' schedules.  Nothing has been finalized at this time, but some options may include:
  • In-week make-ups over Christmas break
  • Athletes may join another session day (extra weekend day), as space is available
  • Add on days at the end of programs
No refunds will be provided for not hosting programs over these holidays so long as adequate make-up day options have been made available.

Academy Program: Offering Tuesdays and Thursdays 1-4pm
This program offers the potential for mid-week training days for athletes who can coordinate their school schedules to get out of school early.  For snowboard, this would mean an additional fee of $425 for each additional mid-week training day an athlete signs up for through the entire season i.e. all Tuesdays = $425 for the season.
At registration, you will need to register for each day separately.  For example, if you want to register for Tuesdays and Thursdays, you will need to first register for Tuesdays and then go back in and add a Thursday registration.
Schedules will be decided by coaches.

Complementary Programs: As a freeride athlete, your schedule would allow you to register for these other GTSSF programs:
  • Cross country prep or comp (Mondays-Fridays)

Ski Passes: Grand Targhee Passes must be purchased directly through Grand Targhee Resort. Pass prices are not included in program fees.

Transportation: Not included on weekends. GTSSF vans will be available for the 2022-23 season.  Shuttles will be coordinated by coaches, office staff, and parents based on where athletes attend school and the needs of other teams.  Transportation is never 100% guaranteed.

Equipment:
  • Snowboards: choose based on height, weight and skill level.
  • Boots: proper fit and flex to facilitate a balanced, athletic stance
  • Protection: Helmet required
  • Avalanche equipment-Beacon required for out of bounds skiing (slack country).  Ortovox avalanche kits available for rent through GTSSF.  View the rental agreement.  Contact the GTSSF office if you would like to
