Ages: U10 Year of birth 2013-2014
U8 Year of birth 2015 or later
Skill Development/Focus: Continued development of sound ski and race fundamentals by skiing a variety of terrain and through drills that refine linked, carved turns. Athletes will be introduced and refine tactical race skills such as gate blocking, line selection, course inspection, and terrain anticipation. Coaches will use a variety of course sets, conditions and terrain to teach athletes to adapt to different situations. Athletes will ski all areas of the mountain including hike-to areas and terrain park.
Races: Athletes are strongly encouraged to compete in at least 3 races per winter.
Schedule/Sessions: Dec. 3-March 19
Full race team starts December 3, 2022 at Grand Targhee and runs through March 19, 2023. Note that the GTSSF alpine race team will be on snow as soon as Grand Targhee Resort opens and will continue with training as the snow conditions allow. U10 racers are welcome to train those additional weeks pre- or post- this listed training schedule. Training will be capped at 20 weeks in total.

Friday - 1pm-4pm
Saturday and Sunday - 8:30am-12:30pm
HOLIDAY SCHEDULE: GTSSF will not be hosting programs on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day or New Year's Day so our coaches and families can enjoy that time with their family and friends. We do intend to provide make-up days for all participants for those three days based on coaches' and athletes' schedules. Nothing has been finalized at this time, but some options may include:
Program Fees:
GTSSF Team Meeting: November 12, 2022, 9-11am, mandatory, location TBD
Ski Passes: Pass prices are not included in program fees. Grand Targhee Jr. Passes must be purchased directly through Grand Targhee Resort.
Equipment:
Transportation: GTSSF vans will be available for the 2022-23 season. Shuttles or other rides will be coordinated by coaches and race parents based on where athletes attend school and the needs of other teams. Transportation is never 100% guaranteed.
Max. Participants/Ratio: 7:1
Licenses: Not required for Club Series races. USSS Competitor Membership $100
Race Travel Expenses: Not included in program fees. See Parent Handbook for more information on competition fees.
Work Deposit and Family Participation: $150 - One deposit required per family. Positive parental support is essential. Families are encouraged to get involved with club activities and volunteer for race events. Deposit is credited at end of year if volunteer hours are fulfilled.

- Local Club Series races offer lots of race experience, are inexpensive to enter. More information found here.
- USSS races are the next step up. It does require a competitor's license. Athletes compete in the "North Series". Schedule can be found here.

- Skis: One pair of race ski and one pair of powder skis. Develop tuning skills.
- Boots: Proper boot fit and flex are critical for performance. Boot flexes and responds as it interacts with the ski plate
- Protection: Head, arm, hand, shoulder, back, teeth (mouth guard) and shin protection recommended, based on event.
- Poles: GS standard length. SL-pole guard for blocking and protection, pole may be slightly shorter.
- Beacons: Only required when free skiing out of bounds.
